The PTO sponsored the parent/teacher conferences dinners with a nice spread for teachers from R Taco.

Our next meeting is Thursday, November 8, at 12:00 p.m. in Mr. Martin's room 204 in the high school. Please note the 12:00 p.m. meeting time is a change from our usual time. Our PTO meetings are open to all families; you do not need to be a PTO member to attend.

At every meeting, Dr. Ramey, Mr. Waller, Mr. Badenhop, Mr. Duwel and Mrs. Owens give updates on the happenings in our schools and district. We also have a question and answer time during our meetings. Parents often ask me questions on why something is done a certain way in the schools. Past questions have pertained to online school forms, athletic fundraising/budget, junior high school supply list, and curriculum input. These are great questions that we have been able to ask our school administrators. We have learned a lot and have been able to give valuable feedback to our administrators. We plan to ask relevant questions at every meeting this year.

Please continue to read our newsletter to learn about PTO's impact upon our school. We hope to see you at our meeting on Thursday!

PTO Fall Grants Awarded

The PTO is excited each year to grant money to the administration and staff at OJHS/OHS to benefit our students and schools. We have a rolling grant cycle so for our first grant of the year, we have gifted a total of $800 to Girl Talk and Men's Breakfast. These two programs are valuable assets to our schools and we are proud to continue our support.

Girl Talk is a program for girls in grades 7-12 that gives the girls a chance to discuss issues facing them in a small group setting. There is a book study as well as a chance to socialize with other girls in their grade. Men's Breakfast is a similar but it's a program for high school boys. We are proud to support such worthwhile programs for our school.  Keep your eye out for other grants throughout the year!

PTO Board Change Announced

Anne Jones has resigned her position as Recording Secretary due to a new job opportunity. Thank you, Anne, for your service to PTO and congratulations on your new position!

We welcome Sonja Smallwood as the new PTO Recording Secretary. Sonja can be reached at sonjasmallwood@yahoo.com.

What is PTO?

The PTO at OJHS and OHS is not like your typical elementary school. How are we different?

  • We only have ONE fundraiser per year--our membership drive.
  • We will provide $7,000 in grants to our teachers/school this year.
  • We have meetings during lunch in September, November, January, March and May. Meetings are OPEN TO ALL FAMILIES at OJHS and OHS.
  • We support our school and teachers through volunteering at dances, baked goods for dinners/appreciation, and coordinating such events as Curriculum Night and New Families Welcome.
