Everybody Counts: Volunteers Needed! Help teach our kids that Everybody Counts!
Everybody Counts introduces children to a variety of disabilities. Each grade-level focuses on a different topic. For example, first grade focuses on visual impairment. This program will run January 28 - February 1 this year.
Many volunteers are required to ensure this important program can run (2-3 per classroom)! No experience needed. A brief training will be provided. Scripts and supplies are provided. It's a great opportunity to interact with children in the class and send a message of social inclusion. Minimal commitment!
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jessica Penwell Barnett at jpenbarnett@yahoo.com.
Teacher Appreciation - Baked Goods Needed! Our TA Committee is planning a cookie/baked good event for the staff on December 18. We would love help getting as many baked holiday goods there for the staff to eat and take home for the holidays.Any questions, please let us know! Thanks, Laura, Lauren and Jessi
Welcome New Smith Families!! Welcome to all the new families in Smith School!
If you have any questions, please e-mail Amanda Andrews or Wenbi Hirakawa. We would be glad to help you!
PTO Support Activities Update Smith PTO is committed to helping support the Smith staff through the loss of Mrs. Bourne. On the day of the funeral, PTO provided popcorn and water to over 400 Smith students while they watched the movie "Inside Out" so staff could attend the service. PTO also provided a catered lunch to the teachers so they could enjoy a meal together before transitioning back to teaching in the afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who was able to help bag popcorn and a special thank you to the Teacher Appreciation committee for organizing the luncheon. And thank you to all of you, whose PTO donations make it possible to do things like this. We heard much appreciation from the staff that day. Thank you all!
Military Kids Club! The mission of the Military Kids Club is to provide a fun and safe place for our military kids to be encouraged, strengthened, and connected to the E.D. Smith Community. The club meets about once a month during the lunch period to do fun activities and community service projects.
Our next meeting will be Friday, December 7 during the lunch period. If your child would like to attend please have them report to the library right at 11:40 a.m. to stay for the entire lunch period. If they are buying their lunch they can go to the cafeteria right away to get their lunch tray and bring it up to the library.
Please contact Ashley O'Hara or Jamie Carter if you have any questions or to find out more about how your Smith student can participate.
