Student DI Contract

I WILL RESPECTFULLY LISTEN AND CONSIDER ALL TEAM MEMBERS’ IDEAS.

I AGREE TO BEHAVE RESPECTFULLY BY BEING KIND, FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS, BEING RESPONSIBLE AND COOPERATIVE, AND COMPLETING THE WORK THAT IS ASKED OF ME BOTH IN AND OUT OF PRACTICE.

I WILL ATTEND ONLINE MEETINGS RESPONSIBLY.

I AGREE TO COOPERATE AND WORK ON THE CHALLENGE THE MANAGER OR TEAM CHOOSES EVEN IF IT IS NOT MY FIRST CHOICE.

I AGREE ALL SOLUTIONS – INCLUDING IDEAS, DECISIONS, PROPS, COSTUMES / HAIRSTYLES, SIGNS, BACKDROPS, DEVICES, GADGETS, ETC – WILL BE MADE BY ME OR A MEMBER OF MY TEAM – NO PARENT OR OUTSIDE HELP IS ALLOWED. IF A PARENT HELPS WITH ANY PART OF THE SOLUTION, THAT PART MUST BE REDESIGNED OR MY TEAM WILL BE PENALIZED.

I AGREE TO SHOW OTHER TEAMS THE UTMOST RESPECT AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AT TOURNAMENTS AS I AM REPRESENTING OAKWOOD SCHOOLS AS WELL AS MY TEAM.

I UNDERSTAND STUDENTS CAN BE REMOVED FROM A TEAM BY THE DISTRICT COORDINATORS IF THE STUDENT OR PARENT SHOWS A PATTERN OF DISREGARD FOR THE EXPECTATIONS OF THIS CONTRACT.

Parent Contract

I agree, in the proper spirit of DI, not to interfere with the team's solutions. All creations, inventions, ideas, props, costumes, backdrops, etc MUST come from the team members. I recognize that anything I help with will not be able to be used at the final tournament and the team will have to spend extra time redesigning a new solution. If the team uses my ideas or work, THEY WILL BE PENALIZED WITH DEDUCTIONS AND POTENTIALLY NOT RECEIVE ANY POINTS FOR THAT WORK.

I agree to make every effort to have my child attend each meeting. If there is a conflict, my child or I will notify the team manager. I understand they have a commitment to their team.

I realize that my child's manager will be volunteering a significant amount of time and effort to provide a CHALLENGING AND GROWING experience for all team members. I will model respectful behavior and peaceful conflict resolution should any arise.

I understand that DI is about the creative process and learning to collaborate as a team, which is not always easy or fun. I will encourage my child to not give up when it’s tough.

I understand that my child’s team is scheduled to present their solution at the Regional tournament in March, and may be expected to progress to the state tournament in April and the Global Finals in May. Additional expenses may be incurred if your child’s team progresses to the Global Finals tournament, but efforts will be made to offset these costs with fundraising.

I understand the LAST DAY TO DROP OUT OF DI FOR A FULL REFUND IS NOVEMBER 15.

I UNDERSTAND STUDENTS CAN BE REMOVED FROM A TEAM BY THE DISTRICT COORDINATORS IF THE STUDENT OR PARENT SHOWS A PATTERN OF DISREGARD FOR THE EXPECTATIONS OF THIS CONTRACT.
