PTO Joins Smith Playground Project

Thanks to continued parent and community support, as well as grant money, Oakwood Schools officials are moving forward with plans to update and enhance the Smith Elementary playground.

Members of the Smith Elementary PTO voted Thursday, Jan. 23 to donate to the playground project.  In addition to a $10,000 donation from the PTO, Oakwood Schools Foundation will assist Smith PTO leaders in organizing a fundraising campaign.

“I am so excited about the opportunities this new playground area will provide for current and future students, and the Oakwood community.  Every day at Smith is a great one but having the chance to hear from supportive parents and PTO members about collaborating on this project makes it even better,” Smith Principal Chrissy Elliott said.

Oakwood High School alum Michael Whalen, who designed the new Lange playground area which was dedicated in the fall of 2019, is assisting the District again to create this new play area.

Donations, which will be processed by The Dayton Foundation, can be made by check or online. For information on how to donate, see the Donate section below.

The playground is expected to be completed before the end of the school year.
