The Impact of Your Support
Here are just a few examples of the impact of your Annual Fund support in the last year.
Air Quality
Responding to an urgent need, 150 air purifiers were installed in classrooms throughout the district.
“The air purifiers in our classrooms provide an additional layer of protection for our students and staff."
-Dr. Kyle Ramey, Oakwood Schools Superintendent
Underwater Studies
A saltwater fish tank at OHS facilitates the study and care of saltwater habitats for science students.
“Concepts that seem abstract and unusable in day to day life will now have a life application and a basis for learning. Our students can begin to understand the environmental issues and pressures facing these habitats and hopefully use their knowledge and voice to impact change for the greater good of our environment, which is a goal of Oakwood Schools."
-Heidi Edwards, OHS science teacher
Flexible Seating
Flexible seating options help increase student learning and focus at Smith School.
“The flexible seating options make it easier for my students to work in small learning groups while having a surface to work on and the opportunity for movement when seated. We see increased student learning and sustained focus when kids are given the chance to move around and get comfortable.”
-Jen Richardson, Smith 2nd grade teacher
Hands-on Science
Interactive science instruction from Boonshoft Museum and Glen Helen Raptor Center at Smith Elementary enables students hands-on study of motion, energy and animal habitats and characteristics.
"I loved learning about the birds."
-Madison Florendo, Smith Elementary student
Let's Print!
A large format poster printer at OJH and OHS gives students the ability to create well-rounded portfolios and large format designs found in engineering and architectural workplaces.
Stretch & Move
Yoga mats for Lange School students provide a yoga and stretching program for Oakwood’s youngest learners.
“Having these mats fits right into our Physical Education curriculum which includes yoga and fitness, as well as our cool down at the end of every class and working on core strength,”
-Deb Osterfeld, Lange Physical Education Teacher
