Summer 2023 Application Process
Please make sure to read this important information about signing up for the South Connection summer program. We will be using a time stamped online link. The link form requires only first and last name of the student, email and a phone number before submitting.
Once this step is completed, a box will pop up with a link for another form to complete with more details regarding days you are requesting and other pertinent information needed to complete registration. Please be proactive by familiarizing yourself with the location of the link before it goes active, since the time you sign up could have a significant impact on your chances of getting into the program.
Summer Application
Everyone will have access to the Google Form at the same time but current students will fill the open spots first, followed by siblings and past South Connection Summer 2022 students. Remaining open spots will be filled by anyone new to the program. Students must finish kindergarten before becoming eligible to attend the summer program. Each entry will be time stamped and programs will be filled by using the data collected.
If a family wishes to enroll more than one student, a form must be submitted for each child. However, the time stamp for the first submission will be used for the entire family. Current family applications must be time stamped before Friday, March 10, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. to be assured a registration packet.
The link became active Monday, March 6, 2023, at 8:00 p.m.
All respondents should look for an email regarding their application’s status by Tuesday, March 14, 2023. You will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to complete registration or inform you that you are on the waitlist.
Basic Summer Information
This year’s Summer South Connection operating hours will be 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. South Connection’s Summer Program will start Monday, June 5, 2023. There is a $55 nonrefundable registration and sunscreen fee that must be paid by cash or check and returned with the paper registration forms. Tuition for students attending Monday - Friday is $175 per week per child. A 3-day option is also available for $105 per week per child and the scheduled days should remain the same throughout the entire summer. Payment must be received by the end of the week. Each child is allowed one week of vacation during the summer. We cannot issue credits for illness even if the child has a doctor's excuse.
South Connection will be providing breakfast and snack. Children must pack a lunch including a drink. Take-out pizza and drinks will be delivered one day a week for lunch. Make sure your child has the following items each day: tee shirt or rash guard for sun protection, tennis shoes, bathing suit, towel (even children not going to the pool need bathing suits and towels for water play), lunch and filled water bottle.
Sunscreen
Children should arrive at South Connection with sunscreen already applied. They will reapply sunscreen at 10 a.m., before their afternoon outdoor activities, and again as needed. Please teach your children how to apply sunscreen properly, since students are responsible for applying it.
Staff will supervise the application and provide mirrors so that children can cover their faces adequately. Staff will help apply sunscreen if a child needs assistance. Whenever children wear swimsuits, either at S.C. or the pool, we strongly recommend they also wear a tee shirt or rash guard. This will protect their backs and shoulders from the sun, since hard to reach areas may not be adequately sunscreened. Children, who do not have the extra shirt, may not be able to wear swimsuits if deemed at risk for sunburn. The tee shirt or rash guard will need to be taken home regularly and washed since it will be worn during water activities.
Transportation
Students have the opportunity to go swimming at the OCC if they have Oakwood pool passes. Other activities and field trips will be planned for those students that do not go to the pool. We offer limited transportation to Dolphin swim team practice, OCC swim lessons, and OCC tennis lessons. Students will also be transported to Oakwood Reading Immersion, if invited by their school. Van field trips are typically booked for 2 days so that half the children go each day. Some children will be on field trips while others will participate in activities at Lange. A local school bus will be used anytime everyone goes on a field trip at the same time. Children will be participating in activities that are connected with a weekly theme.
Lessons
Transportation to OCC lessons that end by noon is guaranteed for the FIRST THREE SESSIONS ONLY. We do not provide one-way transportation. Parents are responsible for registering and paying for lessons. Although we take students to the lessons, the OCC staff is responsible for supervision and instruction. Children should only be signed up for lessons if they are responsible enough to follow directions and participate in group lessons.
Drop-Off
Parents will bring children to the back door of Lange (#5). Do not leave until you have checked to see that your child has all necessary items for the day and has been signed in. This is also a good time for exchange of needed information about the day with S.C. staff.
Pick-Up
Parents will pick children up at the back door of Lange (#5). Drivers should never cross through the orange cones since children may be outside on the playground. Cars may park behind the cones or in the marked parking spaces. The 6:00 p.m. closing time will be strictly enforced. The $1 per minute late penalty fee will be assessed for late pick-ups.
As new information becomes available, some changes may be necessary. We look forward to having a fun and adventuresome summer. Let’s all work together to make it as safe and enjoyable as possible.
