Special Education Audit

In 2023, Oakwood Schools began a multi-year, internal audit of its Special Education program to gather information regarding the structures, processes and services the District provides.

The Special Education audit is focused on gathering feedback in the form of guiding questions to identify the optimal program design and service delivery, in order to focus on improving outcomes for students with disabilities.

   

 

2022 - 2023 Year 1

In partnership with Montgomery County Educational Service Center, five listening sessions were held.

  • March 22, 2023 Parents
  • April 3, 2023 Staff

35 parents participated
68 staff members participated

An online parent survey was also made available March 13 - 24, 2023 to gain feedback.

From May 2023 to August 2023, Sue Gunnell, Director of MCESC Regional Center, compiled all the data from parents, staff and administrators.

   

 

2023 - 2024 Year 2

The 2023 - 2024 school year began with the audit team identifying six common themes from the data and feedback collected. Those themes are:

  • Special education service delivery, program design and processes
  • Professional learning
  • Communication
  • Resources
  • Parent supports
  • Student outcomes

The information was then presented to the Oakwood Schools Board of Education Oct. 9, 2023. 

The goals for year two of the three-year audit are:

  • Communicate summary of work
  • Identify/verify tasks and activities for 2023 - 2024 and 2024 - 2025
