Student Wellness and Success Plan

Student Wellness and Success Funds Overview: School Year 2025–2026

The Oakwood City School District is committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and overall well-being of every student. Student Wellness and Success Funds provide an opportunity for districts to address the needs of the whole child by supporting programs and services that promote student success, wellness, and safe, supportive learning environments. Based on identified student needs, Oakwood City School District has prioritized using these funds to expand mental health supports and address barriers affecting student attendance and academic success.

Identified Needs

Through ongoing review of student data, staff input, family communication, and individual student needs, the district identified an increased need for accessible mental health supports. Students experiencing emotional challenges, academic concerns, attendance barriers, and other risk factors were identified as needing additional assistance.

The district’s goal is to provide proactive supports that allow students to remain connected to school, improve academic outcomes, and experience a safe and supportive educational environment.

Use of Student Wellness and Success Funds

School-Based Mental Health Services

Student Wellness and Success Funds have been used to provide school-based mental health services for students in need of additional support.

Students were identified through:

  • Staff referrals based on academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional concerns
  • Identification of students experiencing emotional or academic risk factors
  • Parent/guardian requests for mental health support

The goal of these services is to:

  • Increase access to mental health support
  • Provide early intervention for students experiencing challenges
  • Support students’ emotional well-being and readiness to learn
  • Strengthen student connections to school and promote success
Attendance and Residency Support

Funds were also used to support a portion of the district’s Attendance and Residency Officer position. This role assists students and families by addressing barriers that may impact attendance and educational success, including:

  • Truancy and chronic absenteeism
  • Residency concerns
  • Housing instability, homelessness, or displacement
  • Connecting families with appropriate resources and community supports

Through this support, the district works to improve student attendance, engagement, and access to educational opportunities.

Community Partnerships

Oakwood City School District partners with the following organizations to support student wellness:

  • Montgomery County Educational Service Center
  • Warren County Educational Service Center
  • Cartwheel Mental Health
  • Dayton Children’s Hospital

These partnerships provide additional expertise, resources, and services to support the academic, social, emotional, and physical well-being of students.

Measuring Success

The district will continue to monitor the impact of these supports through:

  • Student attendance data and chronic absenteeism rates
  • Academic progress and grades
  • Student access to mental health services
  • Student, family, and staff feedback
  • Overall student engagement and connection to school

Commitment to Student Wellness

Oakwood City School District remains committed to creating a safe, supportive, and caring environment where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Through strategic use of Student Wellness and Success Funds, the district continues to invest in supports that address student needs and promote the success of the whole child.
