A Time for Gratitude

It’s our last day of school for the 2023 calendar year!  The mark at the end of the first semester signifies that we are halfway through the school year.  This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on the amazing things that have occurred over the past few months and express gratitude for the hard work, dedication, and support from others.

Many of our students are amid many academic accomplishments, big and small.  There’s been a buzz at the secondary buildings as students have been preparing for and taking semester exams. At the elementary level, I visited classrooms where students were deep in reading and learning about famous inventors.

In addition to their studies, students are also involved in clubs, activities, performances, and athletics.  I am amazed by our talented and hard-working students!  In addition to cheering on our school athletic teams, I had the opportunity to see our Harman Elementary students perform with the handbells.  And I also got to cheer on several of our students at the Nutcracker performance!

When I was in school, I played the violin, played tennis, and acted in a few plays and musicals.  It was a great opportunity for me to have fun, connect with others who had the same interests as me, hone skills and learn, and stretch myself - in performing in “Fiddler on the Roof” and “West Side Story,” I have great respect for people who dance!

As I reflect on my past now, I realize that all of these opportunities happened because someone was there to coach, direct, lead, supervise, and support me!  Talk about a reason to express gratitude.  The great things that happen in Oakwood aren’t by accident.  It takes a collective effort by our teachers, coaches, parents, and community members!  For that, I am thankful for all of you.

As we move into Holiday Break, I want to express my gratitude to the many people who make Oakwood special.  Your leadership, energy, inspiration, passions, and expertise are noticed and appreciated.  I wish you great joy over the Holiday Break, spending time with family and friends.  I hope you take the time to express gratitude.  See you in 2024!
