Oakwood Schools

It's a Music Marathon Next Week in Oakwood!

There’s a buzz of activity at our schools!  While I wanted to believe when I was a math teacher all of my students came to school just for my class, I know students get excited for school based on various subjects, teachers, and even extra- and co-curricular activities.

Next week, we are continuing to showcase our high school students in the performing arts!  Last week, my wife and I were able to cheer on our Junior High School students performing in the band, choir and orchestra.  I played violin when I was in school, and I found the talent and hard work of our Oakwood students so impressive.

I also love to sing (more in the car and shower), but I almost leapt out of my chair when the students beat-boxed in one of the choral selections.  Finally, I can’t get enough of our marching band members who continue to bring energy at the football games this year!  Every performance just gets better and better!  I do appreciate all of our music teachers for selecting pieces that showcase their students’ range and make the performances fun for everyone!

I invite our community to the Oakwood High School “Music Marathon” next week:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7:00 p.m. @ OHS Auditorium - Fall Orchestra Concert

  • Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7:00 p.m. @ Mack Hummon Stadium - Marching Band Concert

  • Thursday, Oct. 26, 7:00 p.m. @ OHS Auditorium - Fall Choir Concert

I did get a chance to sneak into the Auditorium during rehearsal before school with our choir twice this week!  I promise they won't disappoint!

A large reason why I chose to apply to serve in Oakwood was the heavy emphasis and support to the performing arts we provide and offer our students.  I encourage you to attend a performance (or all of them) to see our students and spend an evening being entertained.

You can find future performances, including our drama and musical performances, on our district Performing Arts Calendar.
