The end of a year brings a lot of moments to allow us to express our thankfulness for the hard work and service of others.  I’d like to thank Deron Schwieterman for serving on the Oakwood Schools Board of Education.  Deron began his term in September of 2021 and brought a lot of insights and leadership through his lens as an Oakwood resident and Director of Human Resources in a neighboring school district.

In addition to getting to know Deron through the Superintendent search and Board Meetings, I also interacted with him on the Board of Education Policy Committee.  Even while talking through various policies or issues, I’ve personally appreciated his thoughtfulness and advocacy for student learning.  

Deron is personable and has the ability to brighten up a room.  I have come to appreciate his zest for life by his love for roller coasters and UD Flyers Basketball!  I don’t think I’ve had an interaction with him that didn’t have one of those two things come up!

At our December 11, 2023 Board Meeting, the following resolution was approved recognizing Deron for his service:

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman will end his service as a Board of Education member effective January 8, 2024 

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman served as an Oakwood Schools Board of Education member for 2 years; and 

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman has demonstrated leadership to the District’s students, staff and families as a School Board member; and 

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman has positively influenced the lives of Oakwood Schools’ students through support of rigorous academic curricula, state-of-the-art educational facilities and equipment, technology integration, and fiscal stability; and 

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman has been sincere and energetic in his approach to his work, he has given freely of his time and abilities far beyond what was required or expected and has displayed a genuine commitment to attaining the myriad goals of the District in a skillful and professional manner. The enthusiasm and generosity he has shown in his endeavors has earned him the respect and admiration of all those with whom he has worked; and 

WHEREAS, Deron Schwieterman contributed his time and expertise to the process of hiring a new Superintendent of Oakwood schools, to serving on the technology and the policy committees, and supporting the levy as both a board and community member; 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Oakwood Schools Board of Education commends Deron Schwieterman for his two years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Oakwood Schools’ students and staff; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Board of Education publicly extends its appreciation to Deron Schwieterman for his contributions to our school district and wishes him many years of health and happiness in his future endeavors.

Serving on any Board takes a great deal of time and energy - we realize there has to be a passion and investment in supporting the mission and values of the organization.  I’d like to publicly thank Deron for his leadership and contributions to helping further the mission and vision of Oakwood Schools.  I wish you the best of luck, and please know that you are valued and seen!
