Information for Sophomores and Juniors and their Parents about the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT

This year, the PSAT is offered solely in a digital testing format. This means that all OHS sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT on computers at 8:15 on October 18.

We are in the process of getting the required Bluebook app onto school-owned Chromebooks, and guiding students who have waiver devices (their own personal computers and not school-owned Chromebooks) to download Bluebook onto their own devices for testing. Students with waiver devices will be receiving an email with instructions on downloading the Bluebook app, and are asked to complete the download process prior to English class visits.

We will be in sophomore English classes on 9/27 and in junior English classes on 9/28, and then in sophomore Advisories on 10/3 and in junior Advisories on 10/4. During these visits, we will be testing all students’ devices to ensure that the app is downloaded and properly working. After this, students will receive individual codes to be able to familiarize themselves with the app and to independently practice test questions and a full-length practice test with feedback in preparation for the PSAT on October 18.

Along with the technical changes, the format of this year’s PSAT is new. The 2023 PSAT consists of a Reading and Writing section and a Math section. Each section has Module 1 and Module 2. Module 1 will have questions from a full range of difficulty, and Module 2 will consist of more tailored higher or lower-difficulty questions based upon a student’s performance on Module 1. Each module is 30 minutes in length. Proctors will give initial and closing instructions, but students will be individually timed through the sections and breaks via instructions on their screens. Students will quietly and individually leave for break between test sections and return from break to start the next section at the direction of their individual devices. At the end of testing, students will submit their tests within the app. Students may not move forward from module to module or complete the test ahead of their timers. To learn more about the format, structure, and details of this year’s test, please go to the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT website, and please touch base with your school counselor if you have any questions.

Students who are approved by the College Board to have accommodations on the PSAT should have received notification from the College Board with individual details. Approved accommodations will also be listed within the Bluebook app. It is important for students to review their accommodations by October 1 as students are unable to adjust accommodations if they are incorrectly listed in the system or to decline any approved accommodations on test day. Please see Mrs. McCauley or Mrs. Lumpkins if you have questions about PSAT accommodations.

PE Waiver

Beginning with the Fall 2022 season, Oakwood Schools will allow students to earn a PE Waiver to meet the physical education graduation requirements.  For information on this process, please contact your School Counselor.  You can also find information on the PE Waiver web page.
