Dr. Ramey To Retire Dec. 31, 2022

After more than 30 years in education, Oakwood Schools Superintendent Dr. Kyle Ramey has announced his plans to retire Dec. 31, 2022.  Ramey shared his intention to retire in a letter to staff and community members Tuesday, July 12.

Ramey has been the Oakwood Schools Superintendent since 2013.  Prior to coming to Oakwood Schools, Ramey was in the Kettering City School district for 20 years as a teacher, principal and director.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Oakwood Schools, the education community and school children, and Oakwood citizens as superintendent since 2013.  I also look back on my 20 years with Kettering City Schools with great appreciation and am thankful to have had that opportunity to serve as well,” Ramey said.

A native of Heath, Ohio, Ramey, who has a doctorate in educational leadership, is also an adjunct professor at the University of Dayton and serves on the executive board of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators.

“Although the board is saddened to learn of Dr. Ramey’s retirement, we are extremely happy for Kyle, Phyllis, and their two daughters. Thirty-four years in education, the last nine as our superintendent have required a great deal of sacrifice from the Ramey family. Being a superintendent is far more than a job, it is a lifestyle. One that commands a fierce loyalty to a greater good. Our district and community is the fortunate beneficiary of Kyle’s excellent leadership and strong commitment to Oakwood Schools. We often talk of standing on the shoulders of giants. With Dr. Ramey’s retirement in December, our district will have one more set of shoulders to support the next generation of Oakwood,” Board of Education President Todd Duwel said.

Ramey says he and his wife, Phyllis, plan to relocate out of the area to be closer to family and while they will miss being part of the Oakwood community, they are looking forward to their “next chapter.”  He’s also confident about what lies ahead for Oakwood Schools’ students, staff and families.

“I believe the future of Oakwood Schools is in very capable hands and everything possible will be done to facilitate a smooth passing of the baton, ensuring the ongoing progress of our great district and community.  The past nine years we have seen extraordinary accomplishments and I am confident our schools and community will continue to grow and thrive.”

The Board of Education will announce its plan and timeline to find the District’s next superintendent at the Aug. 8 board meeting.
