Acorn staff at Oakwood Junior and Senior High recently earned two notable recognitions for their 2023 yearbook. Students received the All-Ohio rating from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association (OSMA). Judges in the OSMA Yearbook Contest evaluated each entry based on nine different categories, including writing, design, coverage and photography. Acorn received an outstanding rating in all categories.
Additionally, the yearbook staff is featured in the 2024 Walsworth Possibilities book. This 352-page inspiration book showcases hand-selected examples of exceptional themes, covers, photography and spreads from 455 college, high school, middle school and elementary school yearbooks.
"This prestigious volume showcases the most captivating and innovative yearbooks from across the country, highlighting creative excellence and journalistic achievement," wrote President Don Walsworth. "On behalf of Walsworth, I want to extend our heartfelt congratulations."
Kelsey Jackson, the English teacher and Ax Media adviser, leads the student publication and expressed her excitement at the recognition of the students' efforts.
"In under a decade, the staff has taken new goals seriously and grown the program exponentially. These two awards are proof of their hard work and dedication," Jackson said. The Acorn staff looks forward to continuing their tradition of excellence in future editions.
