Speech and Debate team members pose at District tournament

Oakwood Speech and Debate team will be sending 35 students to the State tournament, following a successful trip to Districts the weekend of Jan. 31.

Bidding out and pre-qualifying to State were, Sam Stack in Humorous Interpretation, Canaan Smith and Sydney Hardern in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Sophie Soller in Program Oral Interpretation, and Gavin Enseleit and Clara Leach in Public Forum Debate.

In addition to those six OHS team members, 29 others qualified Feb. 1.  Heading to State to represent OHS are:

Ella Conard, Claudia Schnell and Lucas Butler, US Extemporaneous Speaking
Lane Bokros, Program Oral Interpretation
Sophie Johnson and Noah Smith, Lincoln Douglas Debate
Lily Meehan and Sebastian Roederer, and Julia Neal and Tess Patton, Public Forum Debate
Gabby Hutchinson and Bryn Cortez, Informative Speaking
Allie Wilson, Natalie Bridgewaters and Isabel Rubin-Alvarez, Dramatic Interpretation
Quinn MacDonald, Humorous Interpretation
Izzy Caruso and Alexx Anderson, Toni Moore and Keara Connolly, and Maggie Bremner and Halle O'Hara, Duo Interpretation
Hannah Hutchinson and Marley Wiemers, Original Oratory
Ashton Tucker, Audrey Bergeron, Porsche Ashley and Zihua Qian, Congressional Debate

The State Speech and Debate tournament is March 6-7.  Team members will have the chance to practice for the big event Monday, Feb. 24 in the Speech Showcase in the OHS auditorium at 7 p.m.  The event is open to the public.
