Members of the OHS State-bound speech and debate tournament

Oakwood High School Speech and Debate sent its largest group ever to the Ohio Speech and Debate Association State Tournament, with 37 students competing.  Facing the toughest competition of the year so far, the team performed well, earning a team award as one of the top schools in the state for Interpretation.

In addition to team success, several students advanced in the multiple-round event.  Canaan Smith made it to octofinals in Lincoln Douglas Debate. In Congressional Debate, Ashton Tucker qualified for semifinals and Porshe Ashley broke to quarterfinals.  Sam Stack competed in semifinals in Humorous Interpretation.  Bryn Cortez made it to quarterfinals in Informative Speaking and Shayla Fredrick to quarterfinals in Program Oral Interpretation.

OHS was among 89 schools with more than 1,100 competitors at the OSDA event.  The team placed 15 in the Team Sweepstakes, the highest of any Dayton-area team.
