the group of students who competed in the UD Davis Center Portfolion Competition

Oakwood High School students in the Wall Street 101 class had the chance to put their financial knowledge to the test in the annual University of Dayton Davis Center High School Portfolio Competition.

Area students competed in the 10-week simulation and were taught by UD students who manage the $30 million portfolio at the Davis Center, the fourth largest college-managed portfolio in the country.  In the simulation, student groups were given $100,000 play money to invest in the stock market and learned about investment strategies, as well as risk and economic indicators in order to help them best manage their group portfolios.

The Stock Brokers, made up of Sophie Schnell, Alex Mayer and Will Schumacher, placed second in the competition versus teams from Centerville High School, Chaminade Julienne, Ponitz and other teams from OHS.  The group’s ending portfolio value was $107,360.92, just $3000 off the winning team.
