On Tuesday, March 19, students from Oakwood High School, local entrepreneurs, volunteers, and Trustees of Oakwood Schools Foundation gathered to celebrate the legacy of Oakwood Alum Irvin Harlamert and celebrate the conclusion of the 15th annual Harlamert Foundation Entrepreneurship Competition with an awards breakfast.

The late Irvin Harlamert graduated from Oakwood High School in 1948, attended Denison University, and the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and served as a judge in

Oakwood for 24 years. Irv had an entrepreneurial mind and a world traveler's heart. These awards would not be possible without his past support, and the generous support provided by both the Harlamert Charitable Foundation and Irv’s son, Bruce Harlamert.

Each year the Harlamert Foundation Entrepreneurship Competition asks students to learn about what it takes to run a business and to explore what it means to be an entrepreneur. Irv created these awards to enable students to learn for themselves that being an entrepreneur includes everything from a vocation to an avocation and can include anyone from a local piano teacher to an attorney at a law firm. This year’s students fulfilled this vision by shadowing entrepreneurs from various industries including education, childcare, finance, retail, fitness, food, healthcare, law and more.

Oakwood Schools Foundation is grateful for the support of the Harlamert Charitable Foundation which makes this competition possible, the time of its trustees, judges, and volunteers, Oakwood Schools, the students who participate, and to all the businesses who open their doors to Oakwood High School students.
