An Oakwood Junior High School student is making his mark on the gaming world. Andreas Meira recently placed first in the middle school division of the 2021 Video Game Creator Challenge sponsored by GameSalad.
The challenge was established “to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (“STEAM”) skills by challenging them to create original video games.”
In Meira’s game, Not-So-Heroic, players must keep their characters aloft by quickly clicking but be careful to not run out of stamina power. A panel of judges scored all the entries on functionality, creative vision, engaging game play and well-balanced game play. Judges said they were impressed with Meira “combining elements of Flappy Bird with an infinite runner.”
For winning Best Overall Game, Meira will receive a 14” Lenova IdeaPad Laptop, a GameSalad swag pack and a one-year GameSalad membership
