Seven members of the Oakwood High School Class of 2020 have been named semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and are now eligible to compete for a share of 7,600 scholarships worth more than $31 million.

These seniors are among the highest-scoring students in the nation on the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, represent less than 1% of United States high school seniors.

The OHS semifinalists are:  David Cai, Sydney Hardern, Ryder Kemper, Noah Kingston, Richard Roediger, Elizabeth Vaughn and Aviva Young.

The next step for semifinalists to become finalists is to complete the required application that includes their SAT or ACT scores, an essay and a letter of recommendation by a high school official.

Finalists are chosen based on academic record, participation in community and school activities, leadership ability, employment, and awards and honors received.  Students will be notified in February if they are finalists.
